A Collection of 1950s Air Force Cartoons and the Stories Behind Them

The Doctor Will See You Now

Serving in the military requires ongoing physicals, health checks and shots. In addition, most military bases have hospital units, so my father surely saw his share of wounded GIs on their way home from Korea to the States. His portrayals of doctors and patients during his time in the Air Force were largely a matter of fun and silliness (and too many bandage wraps) as opposed to seriously wounded servicemen or exhausted medics.

Doctor visits were common enough that the first cartoon below is the first one in OTD! (after the welcome wave). It looks like the same doctor who gave the shots is in two of these.

And then there’s this two-parter with another bandaged-up serviceman.
