Rank and Class
My dad’s highest rank in the military was Airman First Class. Many of the cartoons in OTD! portray GIs falling in line for inspections, being shouted down by drill sergeants or other superior officers, and funny and awkward situations at the intersection of rank and class.
This first batch shows a few servicemen who deserved to be taken to task for not following orders.

Rank is important to our servicemen and women. Those in the lower ranks saw the obvious advantages of moving up in the chain.

Rank seems to be linked to class a bit in the military of my dad’s time. (I’m sure it still is.) You can see how it comes out in the way some of his characters talk and look.

And then there was just my dad bringing the silly. Even if you were an MP, you apparently weren’t immune to big bullies.
