What a Mess!
It wouldn’t be a mess hall without GIs complaining about the food. It must have been a shock to the system to an American out and about on a 3-day pass eating delicious food in France, Italy, and Germany only to return to an eating establishment where the food gets slopped onto a tray.
Cooks must have been among the most beleaguered men in the service. They weren’t exactly given the best ingredients to work with (um, powdered eggs, anyone?), and then they had to endure long lines of soldiers and airmen complaining constantly. Nobody was happy in the mess hall.
I still can’t understand why the two guys are fighting over a mess kit…
